The Czech and Slovak Ministries of Defense have agreed to jointly purchase Stridsfordon 90 combat vehicles of Swedish origin, also known as CV90s.
Here's What We Know
The Czech Republic's plans to buy BMPs became known back in July 2022. As previously reported, the Czech Republic will order 210 tracked CV90 armored infantry fighting vehicles. Slovakia wants to buy 223 BMPs. The agreement on the joint purchase of armored vehicles was signed during the SIAF 2022 air show by Czech and Slovak defense ministers Jana Černochová and Jaroslav Nad' respectively.
It is further noted that Slovakia will purchase the combat vehicles in two phases. At the first stage will be delivered 152 units, and at the second - 71. At this state will receive seven modifications of CV90, including a version CV9035 with 35-mm automatic gun and 120-mm mortar. The launch of local production of BaE Systems infantry fighting vehicles in the Czech Republic and Slovakia is also discussed.
