To circumvent U.S. sanctions for $115: Huawei Mate 50 flagships will get 5G support, but with special cases

This week, Huawei unveiled its new Mate 50 flagships. The older versions received top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processors, but without 5G support, as required by U.S. sanctions. However, Huawei has found a way out of this situation.

Details

The solution is a special case with a built-in eSIM chip and modem, which provides the smartphone connection to the fifth generation networks. Such cases are already available for the P50 Pro flagship. They are designed and manufactured by Digital Source Technology, weigh about 52 g and are 3.2 mm thick.

But the Huawei Mate 50 line will not have to wait long for these cases, as was the case with the P50 Pro: they have already received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and are expected in October.

According to insider information, the cases will be available only for three models: Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro and Mate 50 RS. That means Mate 50E is missing here. The price is rumored to be around $115.
