The Russian Navy has only one aircraft carrier in service. It is called Admiral Kuznetsov, and it caught fire today in the city of Murmansk, where it is undergoing repairs.

Here's What We Know

The flagship of the Russian Navy and the Northern Fleet has been in a state of disrepair for several years. In 2018, after a contract for modernization and restoration of technical readiness, the ship went to the Zvezdochka ship repair plant in Murmansk.

In the same year, an accident occurred during the launch - a crane fell on the deck. A year later, the aircraft carrier caught fire when a spark hit the bilge room, where fuel was spilled. This necessitated additional repairs, and the ship's transfer to the Navy was delayed until 2024.

On December 22, a fire broke out again during repairs. Russian media report that the fire was extinguished. It is now reported that all workers have been successfully evacuated. Three years ago the fire killed two people and injured several more.
