Microsoft releases new Xbox update that adds advanced power mode and more features to Google Home

Microsoft has released a new update for Xbox consoles that brings improved power modes and support for the Google Home app. This update will also automatically put Xbox Series consoles into power saving mode, but you can manually return to sleep mode, which will allow you to turn your console on instantly but will consume significantly more power.

Here's What We Know

The improved power modes include an activity hours setting that allows you to set a time during which your Xbox will boot up quickly and be available for remote play. Outside of the set period, the console will switch to Shotdown mode and consume only 0.5W/h of power.

In addition, the update brings new features to the Google Home app. You can now use your smartphone as a remote control for your console. You can switch the device on or off, navigate, pause playback, record game clips, and adjust the volume.

Finally, the Xbox Dashboard update in February also includes a small change to the Home interface so you can hide the game image on the home screen. Microsoft has also added a quick way to view recent participants in the dashboard, and this is slowly rolling out to a "random subset of users" at first.
