It's official: Poland transfers 14 German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine (updated)

In early January, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the Poles planned to hand over Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Nearly two months later, they are already in Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

The Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has told about it, as reported by the rmf24. It's about 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks. Ukrainian crews have already undergone a training programme in their use. By the way, in the near future Ukraine will also receive 14 Leopard 2 tanks from Germany, 10 from Spain, 4 from Canada, 3 from Portugal, and 8 from Norway.

Flashback

The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The Leopard 2 is the successor to the successful development of the Leopard 1 battle tank. The Leopard 2 has many modifications and is used by the armed forces of Austria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Turkey. A total of 3,200 tanks of this model have been produced.

Updated: Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal has approved the transfer of the first Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, but clarified that so far we are talking about four vehicles. The rest of the batch will be delivered a little later.
