Germany deploys first MIM-104 Patriot air defence system in Vilnius to defend NATO summit

Less than two weeks remain before the NATO summit in Vilnius. But comprehensive preparations for the event are well underway. The summit will take place on 11-12 July 2023.

Here's What We Know

Germany has begun deploying the MIM-104 Patriot air defence system in the Lithuanian capital. It first became known at the end of May that the Bundeswehr's anti-aircraft missile systems would arrive in Lithuania.

The Baltic state's armed forces announced that the deployment site for the air defence system had been manned by German specialists. The personnel of the German Armed Forces will ensure uninterrupted operation of the complex.

The Patriot system is being deployed for the first time in Lithuania. In addition, the country's armed forces, together with their allies, will provide additional air defence for critical facilities and routes, as well as protection for individuals.
