Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple is considering releasing the cheapest MacBook in the lineup next year

In September, DigiTimes, citing its own sources, reported that Apple is developing a new line of laptops that will be cheaper than the existing MacBook Air and Pro and will compete with Chromebooks. This information has now been confirmed by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Here's What We Know

Kuo believes that Apple could consider such a move to increase shipments and sales of MacBook laptops. Which model it would be and how much it would cost - he did not specify. Currently, the cheapest MacBook costs $999, so it is likely that the new product will be even cheaper.

According to an initial report from Taiwan, Apple's more affordable MacBooks will undergo some design changes to bring the price down. The manufacturer will keep the metal body, but most likely will use other materials.

Perhaps we are talking about a compact 12-inch MacBook, rumours about the revival of which appeared last year. Apple has released such laptops before: the 12-inch MacBook debuted in 2015 with a thin and light body, USB-C port, butterfly keyboard, and Intel Core M processors. Unfortunately, many considered it weak due to the processor, so Apple discontinued this model in 2019.
