Telegram is testing a "passport" for its TON block-platform

Developers of Telegram have created an identity system that will be used in the future Telegram Open Network (TON). According to Vedomosti, the new service was called Telegram Passport and is already being tested in closed mode.

How it works?

According to preliminary data, in Telegram Passport can collect passport data, passport or driver's license, utility bills, bank account certificates and other documents, as well as ask the user to take a photo to confirm the identity. All information is encrypted and password protected by two-factor authentication. The service will be accessed only with the consent of the user.

On the basis of TON, a payment system with its own crypto currency Gram will be created. With these coins, users will be able to pay for goods and services in the built-in messenger marketplace, as well as from partner services. With a "digital passport" the team refuses to anonymize crypto-currency payments, so as not to cause unnecessary questions from regulators.

According to sources, data from Telegram Passport is used not only by the messenger itself. With their help, partner services will verify people in their system (if they have previously agreed to this).

When?

Probably, Telegram Passport will work by the beginning of summer. At the time of launch, several partners will work with the service. Among them may be a payment system Qiwi, which has already gained access to technology.

Durov has already raised $ 1.7 billion to build his own blockbuster platform. After two rounds of the closed sale of the tokens, the team decided to dispense with the public ICO .
