Ukrainian students won gold and bronze medals at the IEEEXtreme 2023 international programming competition. This prestigious competition brought together more than 16,500 participants from 69 countries. Teams from leading Ukrainian universities, including Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", demonstrated their unsurpassed skills and achieved incredible results.

The competition lasted 24 hours and included challenging programming tasks. The Ukrainian teams showed an exceptional level of skill and endurance, and the results were truly impressive. With three teams in the top 5 of the global ranking, Ukraine can be proud of its programming talent. This victory is a reflection of the potential of the young generation of Ukrainian programmers.

What is IEEEXtreme?

The IEEEXtreme International Programming Olympiad is an annual competition for students from all over the world who have an interest in programming and computer science. The competition is organised by the Technical Committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE), the world's largest professional association for technology.

  • Duration and format: The competition is held for 24 hours continuously, during which teams compete in solving complex programming problems.
  • Participants: Teams consist of three students representing different universities or colleges. Participants must be students in a bachelor's or master's degree programme.
  • Tasks: Every two hours, new tasks are released, requiring participants to use logical thinking, algorithmic skills and the ability to solve problems quickly in a limited time.
  • Scoring: Teams receive points for each problem they solve, and the overall rating is based on the sum of these points. Winners are determined based on the results of the competition.
  • Prestige and rewards: Participation in IEEEXtreme gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their programming skills and knowledge, gain recognition from leading industry experts, and receive valuable prizes and certificates.
