Tech giants team up for revolutionary AI and HPC networks
Tech companies are joining forces in the Ultra Ethernet Consortium, which was launched under the auspices of The Linux Foundation last summer.
Here's What We Know
According to a report published on 23 March, the consortium has been joined by giants such as IBM, Nokia, Dell, Baidu, Huawei, Lenovo, Supermicro, and Tencent, which marks a growing interest in the development of AI and HPC networks.
The Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) is working to advance Ethernet networking technologies to meet the needs of advanced AI and HPC applications. According to the chairman of the UEC Steering Committee, the needs addressed by the consortium are actively attracting the attention of technology giants. This indicates a significant interest in the development of AI and HPC networks.
UEC has gathered more than 715 industry experts in eight working groups. Its goal is to optimise AI and HPC networks by modernising the operation of remote DMA over Ethernet and introducing open protocol specifications that support IP and Ethernet.
The consortium's work is expected to lead to a comprehensive architecture that optimises Ethernet networks for high-performance AI and HPC tasks, surpassing the capabilities of current dedicated technologies. The release of version 1.0 of the specification is already scheduled for the third quarter of 2024, the consortium promises.
