India to deploy laser anti-drone system on border with China

The Indian army has deployed seven local anti-drone systems along the border with China.

Here's What We Know

The Times of India notes that the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDD&IS) has both soft and hard kill options with a range of 2-5 kilometres and 800 metres.

"Soft" destruction includes jamming, spoofing and disrupting communications between the drone and its operator, while "hard" destruction includes directed energy options such as laser and microwaves.

The source explained that the military will supplement the existing drone countermeasures system with laser capabilities. There are also plans to continue improving IDD&IS with a longer interception range. There are reports of the development of stronger such systems with 30-40 kilowatts and a range of 10 kilometres.
