Picsart collaborates with Getty to create an AI-powered image generator that won't infringe on copyright
Getty has partnered with Picsart, a popular photo editing platform, to develop an AI image generator that is fully trained on licensed stock images.
Here's What We Know
This collaboration aims to create a "responsible, commercially secure" alternative to existing platforms. Images created using this model will have full commercial rights, which will alleviate concerns about copyright infringement related to AI-generated content.
The service will be available exclusively to Picsart's paid subscribers, similar to Adobe's Firefly AI model, which also learns from stock images, but not only from them. Recently, Adobe faced a backlash after updating its terms of service to use user artwork to train AI, and quickly reversed the move after a public outcry.
To avoid similar problems, Picsart and Getty are committed to using only fully licensed stock images, ensuring that the work of regular Picsart users is not used to train AI. "This allows creators to bring their ideas to life while maintaining the highest standards of commercial security," Grant Farhall, COO of Getty Images, wrote in a blog post.
Getty also compensates authors included in the dataset annually, addressing the issue of fair treatment of professional photographers.
