Apple wants iPhone and iPad users to be able to format external drives connected to their device without the need for a Mac. This has been revealed in the latest findings in the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 developer beta, as reported by MacStories.

Here's What We Know

iPadOS 18 has new file format options in the Files app. Users can now wipe external drives and choose to format in formats such as APFS (case sensitive or encrypted), ExFAT, and MS-DOS (FAT).

The update also includes support for formatting on iPhone, making the process of managing external drives more accessible to all Apple users.

The beta versions of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are now available to developers, and the second beta version is scheduled for release on 24 June.
