Avowed's combat system has become "juicier and more dynamic": the developers from Obsidian have listened to gamers' criticism and made significant improvements

The first extensive gameplay demo of Obsidian Entertainment's ambitious RPG Avowed took place at the Xbox Developer_Direct show in January 2024.

Most gamers liked what they saw, but some noted that the combat system looked a bit odd, clunky, and slightly outdated. Soon after, gamedirector Carrie Patel reacted to the public's reaction and promised that the developers would take into account the criticism and improve the battles for the game's release.

Here's What We Know

In a piece published by Windows Central, Carrie Patel and lead gameplay designer Gabe Paramo revealed that their team made a lot of changes to Avowed's combat system to make it look "juicier and more dynamic". In particular, they sped up some of the punches, added more visual effects, removed the lag during swings and worked on the soundtrack.

The developers are sure that the current version of the combat system is much better than the one that was demonstrated in January, so gamers should not be disappointed.

Probably, the next Avowed show with improved combat system will take place at gamescom 2024, as Microsoft has the largest booth in the history of the exhibition and it would be strange not to show there the game, whose release is expected in autumn on PC and Xbox Series.

Avowed will be available immediately on Game Pass.
