The decision has been made: the developers of the Fallout London mod will open a studio and start releasing their own projects
Even before the release of a large-scale fan modification Fallout: London for Fallout 4, which, by the way, became the fastest distributed project in the history of GOG, a collective of enthusiasts from Team FOLON said that they want to start a full-fledged indie studio.
Here's What We Know
Team FOLON leader Dean Carter spoke to BBC journalists and confirmed that his team really intends to start developing their own projects and will open a studio. The successful release of Fallout: London and generous donations from gamers who cared about the game helped them to confirm this decision.
It helped us a lot that a lot of people who liked the modification donated money to us. We are channelling that money into our Team FOLON and hopefully we will be able to launch our own indie company.
It will be entirely our creation, we will be able to make the game we want ourselves, which we think the community will like. In my opinion, Fallout: London was a great starting point for such a goal, because we've worked with people and we know what the community likes.
At the moment Team FOLON is working on patches for Fallout: London and plans to restore the content that had to be cut before the release of the mod, including one of the ending options. The developers warn that the patch will not be released until the end of 2024.
Note that the story of Team FOLON is not unique, as many mod developers later received positions in large game companies or opened their own studios.
