Insider: The ray tracing in MediaTek's new Dimensity 9400 chip could be PC-level

MediaTek is gearing up to release its new flagship Dimensity 9400 processor in mid-October. This chip promises significant performance improvements, especially in the area of ray tracing, which insiders say will be PC-level.

Here's What We Know

According to an Ice Universe insider, the Dimensity 9400's ray tracing performance is improved by 20 per cent over the previous generation, thanks to new technology similar to NVIDIA's Opacity Micro-Maps (OMM) used in PCs.

In addition, another insider, Digital Chat Station, claims that the Dimensity 9400 GPU performs 30 per cent better in 3D Mark benchmarks while reducing power consumption by 40 per cent compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The chip will be based on TSMC's 3nm process and will include eight cores: one 3.4GHz Cortex-X5, three Cortex-X4 and four Cortex-A720. The Dimensity 9400 is expected to be used in flagships such as the Vivo X200, OPPO Find X8 and Redmi K80 Ultra.
