Developers from GSC Game World shared their thoughts on the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which was released after numerous delays. Although the game received positive feedback from players, critics pointed out performance issues and bugs. The studio's CEO Yevgeniy Grigorievich said that the team could not afford another delay as they were exhausted after a long period of work, especially given the war in Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

Grigorovich compared the development process to running marathons, emphasising that the team was so exhausted that they could not take on another stage of development. "You're so tired that you just can't say, 'Let's run another marathon,'" he said. Given the time constraints, the team decided to release the game in the best condition available at the time.

The GSC Game World team worked on the game during the war, splitting their efforts between offices in Kyiv and Prague. This allowed them to continue working on the project despite the challenges. Creative director Maria Hryhorovych said that the team never thought about giving up and always wanted to finish the game.

Despite the bug and performance issues, Grigorovich said that fixing bugs was the easy part compared to the creative process of creating the game. The team has already released the third major patch since the release, continuing to work on improving the game and providing a better experience for players.
