PlayStation VR2 has the ability to track your hands without controllers
At Siggraph Asia 2024 in Tokyo, Sony has demonstrated controllerless hand tracking for PlayStation VR2, marking a significant advancement to its virtual reality platform. Demonstrated in a mini-game about cleaning, the feature uses hand gestures to control on-screen actions without the need for traditional controllers.

Here's What We Know
The technology tracks the position and pose of the hands and is supported by the latest version of the PlayStation 5 SDK. Sony claims that the system operates at a smooth 60 frames per second with low latency and can recognise 12 different gestures. This development brings the PS VR2 closer to competitors such as Quest 2 and Quest 3, which already offer hand tracking as a standard feature.
The demo highlights Sony's commitment to increasing the interactivity of virtual reality, although it is unclear when or if this hand tracking feature will be available to consumers.
