November 20 saw the release of the long-awaited shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.

The development of the game lasted 14 years (with breaks) and was accompanied by a huge number of difficulties, the main of which was a full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine. Studio GSC Game World had to move to Prague to finish the work there, but there were not only scandals, postponements, leaks and even a serious fire in the office ahead.

Here's What We Know

Nevertheless, the game was still released and is very popular - in the first three days one million copies of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. were sold. 2.

Ukrainian businessman and owner of the studio GSC Game World Maksym Krippa in an interview with Forbes Ukraine on the question of how many copies of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 should be sold to make the game profitable. 2 to make the game profitable, said that this figure has already been reached and the game has paid off the entire production and marketing budget.

We have already sold enough to bring the project into profit. Before release, the team was working practically 24/7. It was living this project, especially against the backdrop of the war. We wanted to give the country hope and pride, to show everyone that Ukrainians can make projects of such a high level.

It should be noted that the interview was given on the 6th of December, so the game paid off the costs in just two weeks, and this despite the fact that according to Krippa, they amounted to "tens of millions of dollars".

It should be noted that this result was achieved not only due to the sales of S.T.A.L.L.K.E.R. 2, but also due to the fact that the game is available from day one in Xbox Game Pass, for which Microsoft must have paid a considerable sum.

Flashback

If anyone wants to know how the game was created in conditions when the enemy troops stood a few kilometres away from Kyiv and fired missiles at the city, we suggest watching the documentary film made by Xbox and GSC Game World "War Game: The Making of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2".
