Xiaomi 16 may get a periscopic telephoto lens for improved zoom and image detail
Xiaomi is probably ready to add a periscopic telephoto lens to its flagship Xiaomi 16.

Information about a possible update of the Xiaomi 16 camera system was shared by the popular Smart Pikachu insider. According to him, the company is currently working on the integration of this technology into the future device.
Periscopic lenses provide high-quality optical magnification as they change the direction of the light flux at an angle of 90 degrees.
This allows for a much wider zoom range without sacrificing image quality, which has already become a standard among flagship smartphones. Such a camera could be a real breakthrough for Xiaomi 16, allowing users to take clear and detailed pictures at a great distance.
In addition to the periscopic lens, Xiaomi 16 is likely to retain the popular 6.36-inch compact display that has been a favourite among users since the launch of the Xiaomi 13. This makes the smartphone attractive to those who prefer convenient, compact models that can easily fit in their pockets.
Although official details are still scarce, the Xiaomi 16 should continue the success of its predecessor, which impressed with powerful specs such as a 1.5K AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a 50MP camera with Leica optics.
The company is also working on the launch of another flagship, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which is likely to be introduced in China after the Chinese New Year, in February 2025.
