Germany handed over the first newest self-propelled RCH 155 to Ukraine
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has handed over to Ukraine the first German howitzer RCH 155, which is positioned as the most advanced in the world.
Here's What We Know
Germany has pledged to supply Ukraine with 54 units of RCH 155, which should significantly strengthen the artillery power of the AFU.
According to German publication Welt, the first howitzer was symbolically received by the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeiev. It is known that the first six RCH 155 systems will initially remain in Germany and will be used for training of the AFU soldiers.
Boris Pistorius confirmed that the delivery of such modern weaponry will confirm the inviolability of German support for Ukraine in its struggle for independence and that "Germany is ready to take responsibility for security in Europe" ©.
Why it matters
The RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers are manufactured by the German-French KNDS concern.
The main features of this artillery system are the unique technology, which has been implemented for the first time in such weapons, which allows firing while moving (at a rate of eight rounds per minute), and the 360-degree rotation of the turret, which makes it possible to hit the enemy at any point in the range. The howitzer is automated and requires only two fighters to use it, and the gun can be operated remotely.
The RCH 155 will be delivered until 2027.
