ColorWare, a company specialising in custom paint jobs, has unveiled a Mac mini in a retro design - with the classic "rainbow" Apple logo and a body in the style of older Macintosh models.
Here's What We Know
Available versions:
- Mac mini M4 and Mac mini M4 Pro
- Two colour options: classic beige and stealth black
Price:
- The price difference with similar Apple models is $300
Warranty:
- One-year ColorWare limited warranty
- Apple's official warranty does not cover these versions
What makes it retro?
ColorWare took inspiration from the design of the Apple II and Macintosh 128K computers and added:
- The classic rainbow Apple logo
- Matte retro case colours
- Signature colouring that echoes iconic Apple devices of the '80s.
Yet the hardware remains modern - inside is the same Mac mini with the M4 and M4 Pro chips introduced by Apple in 2024.

Is it worth getting?
This version is for fans of Apple's retro design and collectors. However, it's worth considering:
- Overpaying $300 for the custom case alone
- Limited warranty - ColorWare only services the devices for 1 year, without AppleCare support
For those looking for a Mac mini with a unique design but don't want to sacrifice official support, it may be worth considering the standard Mac mini M4 and M4 Pro versions directly from Apple.
