A Reddit user has reported a serious problem with the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 GPU. During normal web browsing, his computer suddenly shut down, and after rebooting, the GPU caught fire and started smoking.

Here's What We Know

The images provided by the user show that the GPU's PCB has caught fire, leaving burning marks on the motherboard chipset heatsink. Apparently, the cause of the fire was a multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC), which is usually used to ensure stable operation and reliability. However, in this case, the capacitor failed to do its job, resulting in overheating and fire. This could be due to a manufacturing defect or power surges.

This incident adds another issue to the list of known RTX 5090 faults, including melting 12-pin power connectors and black screens. Users have expressed concerns about the quality and reliability of this model, especially considering its high cost.
