Samsung and Hyundai have successfully completed testing of RedCap technology in a private 5G network
Samsung has announced that it has completed trials of the industry's first RedCap end-to-end connectivity over a private 5G network for Hyundai Motor Group.
Here's What We Know
The trials, conducted by Samsung Networks and Hyundai Motor Group, were aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of next-generation 5G networks for various industries. Both companies are working to transform Hyundai's plant in Ulsan, Korea, into a smart factory using advanced 5G technologies to improve production efficiency. It is the world's largest automotive plant, producing an average of 6,000 cars daily.
RedCap's private 5G network trial tested the connectivity and control of multiple devices and production systems throughout the plant. The high-performance, low-latency network enables real-time data download and upload, as well as control of automated vehicles, IoT devices, robots and sensors.
The testing has been successful, allowing Hyundai to plan to implement the technology at its newest electric vehicle plant, which will begin operations in 2026. Hyundai officials said that this strengthens their global leadership in smart manufacturing solutions and commercialisation of 5G private networks.
