Huawei has created a 1.5-megawatt charger for electric trucks
Technology giant Huawei has announced at the China Electric Vehicle 100 forum a charger with a peak power of 1.5 MW and a maximum charging current of 2,400 Amps. The public premiere of Huawei's new "supercharger" will take place on 22 April.
What's known
Hou Jinlong, president of Huawei's Digital Energy division, revealed that the new charger is primarily designed for electric trucks. It can transfer up to 20 kWh per minute and fully charge a vehicle in 15 minutes.
"For full electrification of heavy trucks, charging time should be less than 30 minutes," Jinlong noted.
On the same day that Huawei announced its 1.5MW charger, Zeekr's vice president revealed its 1.2MW charging station for electric passenger cars.
In addition, BYD recently unveiled its new 1 MW "supercharger" capable of adding 400 kilometres to a car's range in 5 minutes. BYD will also equip charging stations with energy storage systems, allowing them to operate stably even in areas where the local electricity grid is not yet ready for such loads on a regular basis.
