In the community of the upcoming Marathon relaunch by Bungie, one of the hottest topics for discussion was the so-called "mouse magnetism" - a feature that actually provided aiming assistance to players using a mouse and keyboard. It seems that the developers have heard their fans, and next week they will conduct an experiment as part of the closed alpha testing, disabling this controversial option.

Here's What We Know

Marathon developers have officially confirmed that this week they will release a patch for the closed alpha version of Marathon with several fixes and updates, including disabling mouse magnetism.

Previously, players had the option to manually disable this feature, but with these changes, the mouse and keyboard aiming assistance setting will be disabled by default.

While aiming assistance is commonplace for first-person shooters on controllers, its impact on mouse and keyboard players is quite rare.

Many players have voiced their opinions on this issue on platforms such as Reddit and Twitter. Well-known streamers who had access to the Marathon alpha also criticised the "mouse magnetism".

"They just need to throw it away. I understand that they are trying to balance consoles and PC for crossplay. But this will only ruin the PC version of the game. You're just 'diluting' it... and making PC players with a mouse and keyboard feel like crap. PC players with a mouse and keyboard would rather just improve their mechanics than have help," Shroud said during his broadcast.

Now, we can only hope that disabling mouse magnetism will have a positive impact on the gaming experience for PC players.

Marathon will be released on 23 September on PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5.
