Volvo Trucks has announced a major milestone: delivering more than 5,000 battery electric trucks to customers since the launch of its first model in 2019. In total, the electric trucks have travelled almost 170 million kilometres in commercial operations, with the leading markets being Germany, the Netherlands, the US, Norway and Sweden.

Here's What We Know

Volvo noted in a press release that its early entry into the electric truck market has allowed it to build unique expertise in zero-emission electric vehicles. The benefits of electric trucks go beyond the environment - drivers get an improved workplace with much lower noise and vibration levels. Volvo has also developed expertise in optimising the use of installed energy, financing, charging and maintenance of electric trucks.

The following Volvo electric truck models are available today:

  • Volvo FL Electric
  • Volvo FE Electric
  • Volvo FM Electric
  • Volvo FM Low Entry
  • Volvo FMX Electric
  • Volvo FH Electric
  • Volvo FH Aero Electric
  • Volvo VNR Electric

Volvo's strategic decarbonisation goal is zero emissions by 2040. To achieve this goal, the company is developing three technology areas: battery, fuel cell and internal combustion engine vehicles. The latter can run on renewable fuels such as green hydrogen (produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity), biogas (Bio-LNG) or biodiesel and HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil).
