Volvo Trucks and Putzmeister have unveiled one of the world's largest electric truck-mounted concrete pumps at Bauma 2025 in Munich. The first machine will soon be delivered to Swedish construction firm Swerock for real-world use.

Here's What We Know

The Volvo FM Electric 8×4 Rigid Tag Tridem can travel up to 50 kilometres and pump up to 50 m³ of concrete on a single charge. The vehicle is equipped with four battery packs with a total capacity of 360 kWh (250 kWh usable capacity). They can be charged directly during concrete pumping with a CCS standard DC device with a capacity of up to 250 kW. In addition, the machine can be charged with an AC unit with an output of up to 43 kW.

The power plant consists of two 330 kW (449 hp) electric motors and the total weight of the truck is 32 tonnes. At the same time, the concrete delivery system has a range of 42 metres, which makes it possible to pump the construction material to hard-to-reach places.

The new concrete pump on a truck chassis completes Volvo Trucks' range of electric construction vehicles, which includes transport trucks, concrete mixers, dump trucks and truck-mounted cranes.

Context

Modern truck-mounted concrete pumps are often equipped with diesel engines that must continue to run while pumping, resulting in high emissions and noise. They are usually used to pump liquid concrete to hard-to-reach places that cannot be easily reached with chutes. Concrete is loaded into the hopper, mixed, pulled out of the hopper and then pushed into the delivery pipes. The operator can control the delivery of the concrete to where it needs to go - this could be the building foundations, upper floors or other structures.

Christoph Fitz, head of sales at Volvo Trucks Germany, said the company is proud of the new product and emphasised the main advantages: zero emissions, low noise and high efficiency.
