After years of absence, Fortnite is preparing to return to the US iOS App Store, and Epic Games is increasing the motivation of users to purchase content directly through their payment system by increasing Epic Rewards to 20%. This is a strategic move amid the ongoing struggle with Apple for alternative payment methods.

Here's What We Know

Epic Rewards, launched in May 2023, allows players to receive 5% cashback in the form of in-game currency for purchases on the Epic Games Store. However, with the upcoming return of Fortnite to the iOS App Store, the company has announced a permanent increase in this reward to 20% for purchases made through their own payment system. This applies not only to Fortnite, but also to Rocket League and Fall Guys - for these games, the 20% cashback will remain forever. For other games in the store, the increased rate will be valid until 31 August 2025.

This also applies to subscriptions and microtransactions. If a user subscribes to Fortnite Crew for $12 through Epic, they will receive $2.40 cashback per month. Similarly, purchasing large bundles of V-Bucks directly from Epic can earn enough cash back to purchase additional packs.

The return of Fortnite to the App Store became possible after a court ruling in the US that forced Apple to allow developers to offer alternative payment methods within applications. Earlier, Epic Games sued Apple over a 30% commission on in-game purchases, which led to the removal of Fortnite from the App Store in 2020.

Now, players on iPhone and iPad will be able to download Fortnite directly from the App Store and choose which payment system to use.
