FAW-Toyota bZ5 with BYD Blade batteries has rolled off the assembly line in China
On 16 May, the production electric crossover FAW-Toyota bZ5 has rolled off the assembly line at the FAW plant in Tianjin. Sales of the novelty on the Chinese market will start in June.
Here's What We Know
The model is built on the platform e-TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture). Overall length is 4780 mm, wheelbase - 2880 mm. The 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor is mounted on the front axle and is supplied by BYD subsidiary FinDreams.

The batteries are also developed by BYD: Blade lithium-iron-phosphate batteries of two capacity variants are used:
- 65.28 kW⋅h - 550 kilometres driving range on the CLTC cycle;
- 73.984 kW⋅h - range of 630 kilometres.
One of the key features of the bZ5 is the Momenta 5.0 semi-autonomous driving system, adapted for urban environments. It comprises 33 sensors, including roof-mounted lidar, five millimetre radars and seven cameras. Nine airbags are installed in the cabin.
Pre-orders in China began to be accepted back in April. The starting price of the version with a range of 550 kilometres is 130,000 yuan (about $18,000). The version with the same mileage, but extended driver assistance package will cost 160,000 yuan (about $22,200).
