The world's fourth largest carmaker finally has a new CEO
Stellantis has officially announced the appointment of Antonio Filosa as Chief Executive Officer. He was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors and will take up his duties on 23 June. The new CEO will take the helm of the world's fourth-largest carmaker in terms of sales at a difficult time - amid falling profits, declining market share in the US and pressure on the company's shares.
What's known
Italian Filosa, 51, has built a successful career inside the Stellantis Group. In South America, he brought the Fiat brand to the forefront, significantly strengthened the position of Peugeot, Citroën, Ram and Jeep brands, and oversaw the launch of the Pernambuco plant, one of the region's largest automotive hubs. It was there that Jeep gained its second most important presence after the US.
As CEO of Jeep, Filosa expanded the brand's global footprint to include Europe, where models like the Avenger have seen strong sales. He has been Stellantis chief operating officer for the Americas region since December 2024, where he has already begun to reshape the U.S. business by reducing excess dealer inventory, revamping the management team, stepping up the launch of new models and powertrains, and establishing a dialogue with dealers, unions and suppliers.
Reuters sources said Stellantis head of purchasing Maxime Picat and three external candidates were also considered for the CEO post. However, in the end, someone with significant experience in both North and South America was chosen.
Stellantis' previous CEO Carlos Tavares stepped down last December amid falling profits and sales. Chairman John Elkann led the company on an interim basis during the transition period. He will retain his position. Antonio Filosa will introduce the group's new management team immediately after taking office at the end of next month.
