Only in Shorts so far: YouTube Premium Lite subscribers will be shown adverts

Google is once again changing the terms of YouTube Premium subscription and this time the changes concern subscribers of the most affordable tariff - Premium Lite.

Here's What We Know

YouTube Google has announced that from 30 June, Premium Lite subscribers will see ads. For now, this only affects Shorts videos, but it wouldn't be surprising if adverts appear in other videos too.

We're reporting that from 30 June 2025, ads may appear in Shorts, in addition to music content and when searching or browsing. Most videos will continue to be ad-free.

The Lite Rate is currently available for $7.99 and disables ads in all videos except music videos.
