Alpine has unveiled a customer rally version of the A290 hot hatch, designed in accordance with the current regulations for this class of competition. The electric car with hydraulic "handbrake" was priced at €59,990.

Here's What We Know

The new car is based on the production A290, which shares a platform with the new Renault 5 and recently won the European Car of the Year 2025 competition. The new Rallye version inherits front-wheel drive and a 220bhp (160kW) electric motor from the civilian A290, but technically it's a different car.

Key changes:

  • ZF mechanical differential lock.
  • ALP Racing Suspension
  • 18-inch Evo Corse wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport A tyres.
  • Reinforced brakes: 350 mm at the front instead of 320 mm, with six-piston calipers.
  • Modified ABS and hydraulic handbrake.

FIA-standard interior: Sabelt buckets, safety cage, nothing extra. But Alpine has gone further - especially for the fans, the Rallye has an external sound generator synchronised to the speed and throttle pedal. It complements the in-built soundtrack familiar from the production model.

The Rallye hatchback will be produced by hand at Alpine's factory in Dieppe, France. The starting price is almost 40 per cent higher than the production A290, but for that money the buyer gets a race car with the ability to compete, including a special one-off event in France with support from Alpine and its own charging infrastructure.

The A290 Rallye will make its public debut at this weekend's Rallye Rouergue Rodez round, then the car will be shown at the Goodwood Festival and Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine.
