Microsoft prefers not to disclose the sales of Xbox Series X|S, but all analysts agree that in the current generation the American corporation has lost the "console race" to its competitor - Sony.

New information from insider KeplerL2 fully confirms this thesis and emphasises the gap in statistics.

Here's What We Know

KeplerL2 with reference to internal reports on AMD component sales claims that since the launch in autumn 2020 Xbox Series X|S sales have not reached the mark of 30 million units. Recall that Sales of PlayStation 5 reached 77.8 million: most people have already bought the console, so demand has decreased, PlayStation 5 sales for the same period as of 31 March 2025 are 77.8 million consoles.

Thus, it is proven that gamers' interest in the Japanese platform is more than twice as high as the Xbox Series.

KeplerL2 shared some more interesting data, according to which in the fourth quarter of 2024, total sales of actual consoles exceeded the mark of 100 million units, of which more than 75 million come from PlayStation 5, 3-4 million from Steam Deck, and the rest from Xbox Series X|S.

Of course, you can not rely on the insider's figures and many analysts disagree with him, but it is impossible to deny the fact that Xbox consoles show significantly weaker sales than PlayStation 5. And this was the main reason for Microsoft's change of strategy, which now relies on the digital ecosystem, centred on the Xbox Game Pass service, rather than on console sales.
