Sony has released updated PlayStation 5 sales data in its latest financial report: as of 31 March 2025, 77.8 million consoles have been shipped worldwide. Although the pace of hardware sales has slowed slightly, the company has seen an increase in sales of PS4 and PS5 games, which helps to maintain business stability.

Here's What We Know

In the fourth quarter of the fiscal year (January-March 2025), Sony shipped 2.8 million PS5s, down from 4.5 million in the same period last year. In total, the company shipped 18.5 million consoles during the year, down from 20.8 million a year earlier. The decline is attributed to market saturation and decreased demand, as most people have already purchased a console.

Sony also notes the growth of digital sales - about 80% of games are purchased digitally, and the number of active PlayStation Network users has increased to 129 million per month. This indicates high player engagement and stable demand for digital content and subscriptions.

Despite the decline in console sales, Sony Sony predicts growth in sales of its own games on PlayStation 5 thanks to Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei, including Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yotei, as well as other announced projects.
