Sony is gearing up for a big year for PlayStation 5 gaming, predicting an increase in sales of its exclusives. Although the company expects a decline in hardware sales, it expects to compensate for this by increasing the popularity of games developed by its own and third-party studios.

Here's What We Know

In its latest financial report, Sony reported that 28.9 million copies of PlayStation games were sold in the 12 months ended 31 March 2025.

With upcoming releases such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (June 2025) and Ghost of Yotei (October 2025), as well as the announced Lost Soul Aside, Marathon and PC release of Stellar Blade, Sony hopes to significantly increase these figures.

Despite the projected decline in PS5 sales in the next fiscal year, Sony believes that the growth in software sales will help balance the situation. The company also relies on gaming services and microtransactions, which are currently one of the most profitable sources of revenue.

In addition, Sony notes a record level of user activity on the PlayStation Network - 129 million active accounts per month, which is 5% more than last year.
