BMW filed a patent application with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) for screws with heads designed in the likeness of the company's logo.

What is known

The patent describes four types of heads, including flat and rounded ones. Each reflects the shape of the BMW emblem, divided into four sectors. Two sectors are recessed, while the others are flat or protruding.

At first glance, the branded screw heads look interesting, especially if used on visible parts of cars. But for mechanics or owners with standard toolkits, they are much less attractive. Unusual screw shapes mean that ordinary tools won't fit, and anyone wanting to access key components might need special BMW equipment.

It's not hard to imagine the headache this might cause in workshops. Standard kits won't cope, and unless you're a BMW dealer or a dedicated enthusiast, you're likely to find yourself missing one screwdriver for a complete repair.

However, whether these screws will go into production is an open question. Automakers file many patents that never go beyond the drawing board. These specific drawings were filed on June 7, 2024, and published on December 11, 2025. But they remain just drawings for now.
