Metro 2039 Announcement Imminent: Explore Post-Apocalyptic Moscow in New Shooter from 4A Games
In recent days, the intrigue surrounding the next installment of the popular Metro shooter series has been growing. There was no doubt that the Ukrainian studio 4A Games was preparing a sequel to Metro: Exodus (2019), but the company did not comment on its plans. Yesterday (April 10), rumors surfaced that the official game announcement would take place next week, and later this information was confirmed by reputable insider NateTheHate.
Jez Corden, senior editor at Windows Central, did not miss the opportunity to share exclusive information. He left a brief message: "Soon" and mentioned the name Metro 2039. Thus, fans learned one of the main intrigues — the events of the new game will unfold four years after the finale of Exodus.
According to numerous leaks, the game's presentation will take place on April 16, 2026, as part of the State of Play show, which has not yet been officially announced.
It is expected that the focus will be on Artyom, and a new protagonist, who will explore the highly anticipated location — the ruins of Moscow, likely in an open or semi-open world.
The game is created in close collaboration with the author of the "Metro" novel series, Dmitry Glukhovsky, who, let us remind you, was Writer Dmitry Glukhovsky - creator of the Metro franchise - has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a Russian court for calling for a halt to the war in Ukraine and criticising the government's actions by a Russian court for an anti-war stance and a fabricated reason, which sounds like "spreading false information that discredits the actions of the Russian army".
