Xiaomi tops the global Android 5G smartphone market
Xiaomi's Indian unit has boasted that the company has topped the global market for Android smartphones with support for fifth-generation networks. The relevant entry appeared on Xiaomi India's official Twitter page.
How so?
If GSMArena is to be believed, 25 of the 35 smartphones announced by the company in 2021 support fifth-generation mobile networks. Since 2020, Xiaomi has launched almost 50 models equipped with a 5G modem, while there are about 90 new products in total.
According to Strategy Analytics, the company shipped 24 million 5G smartphones in the second quarter of 2021, including POCO and Redmi models, giving it a 25.7% market share. Vivo settled in second place with a share of 18.5%. OPPO, Samsung and Realme took 17.9%, 16.7% and 5.9% of the market respectively.
Experts from Strategy Analytics said that the main reason for Xiaomi's success was the release of a large number of low-cost smartphones with 5G support. For example, Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G, which was introduced in late spring and immediately became a bestseller in China.
