We learned what the 300g lighter version of Sony PS5 has lost [video]

The gg editorial staff recently told you that Sony has unveiled a new lightweight and redesigned version of the PlayStation 5. Now it's pretty clear what the reduced weight is due to. YouTube user Austin Evans has posted a video showing the new PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (without the optical drive) being taken apart.

Most notable is the reduced size of the cooler, which is probably simply cheaper.

This saves about 300 grams, but increases the overall temperature by a few degrees. This isn't necessarily a big issue, but it's important to be aware of. Especially if the user is upgrading the SSD or plugging a lot of different peripherals into the system.

Other changes have been made to the console as well. The stand screw has become more user-friendly, the connections to the Wi-Fi chip have changed. In the latter case, it's unclear if it makes any difference to performance. It's unlikely.

Sony has not officially commented on the design changes in the new version of the console. However, it is likely to be about cost cutting, based on observations made after the release of the first revision. The company now knows how cooling happens "in combat" conditions and how other components work.
