Windows Subsystem for Linux appeared on Microsoft Store on Windows 11

Microsoft has posted a pre-release version of Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) to the Microsoft Store for Windows 11 to begin testing a new way to distribute updates for the subsystem.

Until now, WSL was an optional extra for Windows 10 and Windows 11 that had to be installed additionally, but this way WSL was only updated when the entire operating system was updated and new features were too slow to appear.

Now WSL will be updated via Microsoft Store, which means Windows 11 users will be able to receive updates and therefore new features much more frequently.

The pre-release Windows Subsystem for Linux in the Microsoft Store offers several new features as well as a new Linux kernel version 5.10.60.1 plus a specialized WSLg library that allows to run Linux applications with a graphical interface.
