Microsoft OneDrive app will become a pumpkin on Windows 7 and Windows 8 from March 1, 2022

Microsoft is trying to push more people to upgrade to new versions of Windows. The company has warned that desktop app OneDrive will stop syncing with personal computers running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 starting March 1, 2022. The app itself will stop receiving updates from January 1.

Of course, users will continue to be able to use the web interface to access files, but understandably, this will not add comfort to anyone.

Business clients are a little luckier, but not all. Microsoft ties corporate support for OneDrive to the Windows cycle for the respective machines. Windows 7 and 8.1 users on workstations will have until January 10, 2023 (the end of extended support for both platforms), while Windows 8 users are screwed just as much as ordinary users.

Microsoft isn't particularly shy about describing the reasons for this move. According to OneDrive developers, it will help "focus resources" on newer Windows platforms and technologies. In other words, if you want seamless file syncing via OneDrive, a system upgrade is imminent.
