Police arrest torrent tracker owners in Denmark
Danish police arrested six people operating torrent sites. Computers and other equipment were seized, as well as money from illegal activities.
Police searched the homes of six men between the ages of 22 and 41. They were all arrested on suspicion of serious copyright infringement and will be released after questioning. Police seized $46,700 from their homes. The money was likely profits from piracy activities.
One of those arrested was reportedly selling access to servers used by a large number of users to share approximately 3,800 copyrighted files.
The detainees operated torrent sites such as ShareUniversity and DanishBytes. The latter was founded more recently, in January 2021. The activity of torrent trackers in a prosperous country like Denmark is somewhat surprising. In the era of publicly available media content streaming services, sharing pirated files in the country of the "first world" looks strange at least.
