Samsung unveils three new chips for use in cars
South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung has unveiled three semiconductor chips for use in automobiles. They will help manage 5G communications, infotainment services and power management in vehicles.
Samsung has already begun shipping its infotainment chips to Volkswagen and is currently in a battle with Qualcomm, which boasts ongoing contracts with automakers such as BMW and Renault.
Samsung unveiled three car chips: Exynos Auto T5123 for 5G communication, Exynos Auto V7 for car infotainment systems and S2VPS01 - for power management (PMIC) for the Auto V series. The company noted that there is a growing demand for "high-tech" automotive chips that can cope with the consumption of more entertainment and the increase in the number of electronic components in cars.
New technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and high performance computing (HPC) are enabling new automotive applications and services, from simple use cases for communicating road health information to more complex use cases for autonomous driving ( ADAS).
The global automotive semiconductor market is expected to reach $ 67.6 billion by 2026.
