EU to use artificial intelligence to automatically translate official press releases
The European Commission has expanded the use of artificial intelligence in document management by allowing machines to automatically translate press releases without human intervention.
Here's What We Know
As part of the pilot project, the agency will publish automatic translations "immediately". All press releases will be marked with a warning that the document may not match the original. At the same time, European Commission staff will work on manual and more accurate translations.
The current procedure involves translating press releases into English, German, French and other relevant languages. However, the new system will allow all 24 official EU languages to be covered.
So far, the project is only applicable to a few policy areas. In the future, the European Parliament plans to expand the use of automatic translations.
