NVIDIA has notified Chinese customers that the release of its latest artificial intelligence chip has been delayed. Its release is now scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

Here's What We Know

We're talking about the H20 chip, the highest-performance of the three models NVIDIA created specifically for China after restrictions were placed on the supply of advanced technologies. Initially, sales were expected to start on 16 November.

According to Reuters sources, the H20's delay is due to problems with the chip's integration by server manufacturers. Other unannounced models - L20 and L2 - will be released on schedule.

These products are designed to help NVIDIA maintain its position in the Chinese market after a ban on shipments of its flagship A800 and H800 chips.

Strengthened U.S. sanctions have opened up opportunities for local competitors like Huawei to occupy the vacated niche. Experts noted that NVIDIA's delayed shipments may prevent the US company from maintaining its leadership in the Chinese market.

Amid the publication of the report, shares of the American chip maker fell by 1.9 per cent.
