Neural networks have been used to produce fake IDs to pass verification on cryptocurrency exchanges

Fraudsters can use artificial intelligence to create fake passports and driving licences that successfully pass KYC (Know Your Customer) checks on popular cryptocurrency exchanges.
Here's What We Know
The now-closed OnlyFake website offered to create realistic images of fake IDs using neural networks for as little as $15. In an experiment, journalists placed an order to create a fake California driver's licence using a real photo but a fictitious name and address.
The resulting image looked very believable. It contained a snapshot of a document that was supposedly lying on a carpet. Journalists claim that the fake was able to pass online verification on the OKX cryptocurrency platform.
Experts fear that such technology could be used to create fake accounts on social media and financial platforms, as well as steal the identities of real people.
Although OnlyFake has already been shut down, similar services may continue to appear amid advances in generative AI.
