Motorola Defy Satellite Link: the $100 compact gadget that adds satellite connectivity to any smartphone

Motorola has brought a rather interesting device called the Motorola Defy Satellite Link to MWC 2023 in Barcelona.

Details

It's a portable device that adds satellite support to any smartphone. It requires a Bluetooth connection and the proprietary Bullitt Satellite Messenger app. If your phone gets lost or runs out of power, use the dedicated SOS button to contact emergency services and send your coordinates.

The device itself is quite compact - for example, you can hang it on a backpack or put it in your pocket. It measures 70×50×11 mm and weighs only 70 g. The device is IP68 dust and water resistant and has been tested to MIL-STD-810H.

The built-in 600mAh battery provides several days of battery life.

Price and when to expect

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link will go on sale in April. The novelty costs $100 and the full package with a 12-month Essentials Messaging Plan subscription (30 two-way messages per month) is $150.
