ASUS has started selling the ROG Ally handheld gaming console with Ryzen Z1 chip instead of Z1 Extreme, with prices starting from $599

A few months after the announcement, ASUS has started selling the ROG Ally gaming console with AMD Ryzen Z1 chip instead of the Extreme version. This model is numbered RC71L-Z1512.

Here's What We Know

The processor is the key difference between the new version and the console that went on sale on 13 June 2023. The Ryzen Z1 has six cores, 12 threads, up to 4.9GHz and integrated graphics up to 2.5GHz. The Extreme version is an 8-core, 12-thread CPU with up to 5.1GHz. The graphics are up to 2.7GHz.

Using a weaker chip naturally had a negative impact on performance. The new version of ASUS ROG Ally turned out to be not only weaker than the modification with Ryzen Z1 Extreme, but also inferior even to Steam Deck.

The gaming console is equipped with a Full HD display with a frame rate of 120 Hz and a diagonal of 7". The battery has a capacity of 40W*h. The amount of RAM is 16 GB, and the storage capacity is 512 GB.

ASUS ROG Ally is priced at $599 / €699. The version with Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor costs $100 / €100 more, and Steam Deck in a similar modification is priced at $649 / €679.
