Apple had a prototype Apple Watch Ultra with a different design, but it never came out
Apple introduced the first generation Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch in 2022, with the second generation debuting this year. However, only now, documents filed with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) have revealed images of the first Apple Watch Ultra with a different design.
Here's What We've Seen
The Apple Watch Ultra (and both the first watch and the second) are only available in one light grey case colour, but with different coloured straps. And the FCC filing shows the watch with a black ceramic back.
The prototype also has a different design for the control button. It appears to be made of plastic rather than metal.
Incidentally, Apple often sends prototypes to the FCC because the company needs the regulator's approval months before launching products. And it's not uncommon for the final products to look different. For example, the documents once showed a gold iPhone X, but the smartphone never got that colouring as a result.
